Derrick Forston is the founder of Forston Consultants, LLC and the creator of the Independent Living Facility® (ILF®) model. With a background in social work and housing services, Derrick recognized firsthand the critical gaps in safe, structured housing for vulnerable populations—and set out to build a better solution.
After launching his first Independent Living Facility® in 2018, Derrick went on to develop a repeatable framework that blends structure, compliance, compassion, and profitability. That framework has since been used to guide and support ILF® operators and housing entrepreneurs across 40+ states.
Through Forston Consultants, Derrick leads a mission-driven organization focused on helping others build Independent Living Facilities® the right way using proven systems, clear structure, and intentional execution.
His work bridges purpose and profit, empowering entrepreneurs, agencies, and organizations to create housing solutions that make a real impact while remaining sustainable.
Today, Forston Consultants serves as the home of the ILF® system—providing education, coaching, and implementation pathways for those ready to build with clarity, confidence, and long-term vision.

Shay Forston is a strategic leader and executive partner at Forston Consultants, LLC, bringing a strong background in business analysis, organizational leadership, and mission-driven execution.
With a Master’s degree and extensive experience guiding purpose-focused organizations, Shay plays a key role in the implementation and growth of the Independent Living Facility® (ILF®) model.
In addition to her work at Forston Consultants, Shay serves as President and CEO of the Angela Denise Foundation, where she leads initiatives focused on expanding access to safe, affordable housing and community-based support—particularly for women.
Her work is grounded in structure, accountability, and long-term impact.
